Scottish Ambulance Service: Cock Up

The Crest for the Scottish Ambulance ServiceScottish Ambulance Service is currently being criticised for losing a disk containing highly sensitive data.

The disk, containing all the details from over 1 million 999 calls (which is ever call since February 2006) was being delivered by a TNT Courier, and went missing after leaving the Paisley EDC.

The disk included the following:

  • The Callers Name
  • Casualties Name
  • Casulties Date of Birth
  • Location of Incident
  • Phone Number used to call
  • Names of crew dealing with call (Call taker, dispatcher, duty officer, ambulance crews, stations etc.)

You know…the sort of stuff which a identity fraud would LOVE to find, especially for use with health insurance scams.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said that all the data was encrypted and was password protected, so that all 999 details would be near on impossible to expose.

Take Care…
