Sounds itself is not a particle so as such is unable to bounce off molecules in the way stated. Sound is a wave which is really a mechanical vibration that needs to travel through a medium. Since sound acts like a wave it spreads out as a ripple would in a pond. The sound eventually dies out due to there being no kinetic energy 'left' in the wave as it will all have been turned into sound energy.
